Fish...smiles...cameras.
The greatest salmon tournament on the Great Lakes - the Hoosier Coho Club Classic - is set for May 5-6 in Michigan City.
A Summer Festival event, the 38th annual Classic hosts 75-plus fishing teams from four Lake Michigan states. A trio of 333TV camera crews will be on hand to record the action, as Michigan City will again be the opening show in a 13-part series which first aired on ABC affiliates in 2010. Tournament boats will blast-off from the pier head at 7 a.m. each day. then return to weigh the day's catch by 1 p.m. The drama-packed, final-five weigh-in, where nobody knows who wins until the last fish is weighed, begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the big tent in Washington Park.
At stake are the all-important swaggering rights as well as $50,000 in cash and merchandise. First place pays a whopping $10,000 in the Pro division, $2,500 in the Amateur division and $1,250 in the 24U division (for boats 24-feet or less in length). As always, there will be plenty of food and beverages available for participants and spectators alike, as the best and biggest fish Lake Michigan has to offer will be on display.
