FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Michigan City Summer Festival: 57 Years and Counting…
Michigan City, IN - June 25, 2012. For more than 57 years, the Michigan City Summer Festival has provided family-friendly summer fun for the Michigan community and visitors to the area. When the community we cherish becomes inundated with misinformation about our organization, it is important to us to clear up the confusion. Here is the only statement that the Michigan City Summer Festival, its staff and board members will make on these topics.
The summer festival’s annual roster activities and events are created and operated by a wonderful team of volunteers, which has changed occasionally over the past 57 years. In such an environment, turnover is not unsual. On the contrary, volunteers, including board members, come and go as their schedules and careers permit. Throughout these transitions, the MC Summer Fest has never failed in providing summer entertainment in Michigan City. Although, we wish the outgoing board members the best in their future endeavors, we also welcome the opportunity to work with some new members.
Despite rumors to the contrary, this current board transition will not affect the slate of events and activities that the MC Summer Fest has lined up for summer 2012. In fact, the MC Summer Fest has resurrected several events from the past. The Michigan City community and visitors can look forward to these family favorites in the coming months. They include:
- The Big Parade, June 30 along Franklin Street
- Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps Pageant of the Drums, June 30, at Ames Field
- Skamania Mania Fishing Tournament, June 30-July 1, throughout the area
- The First Annual Michigan City Kite Festival June 29-July 1, at Washington Park
- The Fly-in Pancake Breakfast, July 1, at the Michigan City Municipal Airport
(This month’s Luau Fish Fry, Kiddie Parade and Baton Twirling Competition were also revived event this year.)
With that said, we invite everyone to join us in making the next 57 years just as great as the last. Don’t just take our word for it. Come see for yourself what the Michigan City Summer Festival is all about!
